HL Deb 22 July 1987 vol 488 c1471WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What contribution to recycling and the reclamation of materials they are planning as part of European Year of the Environment's Recycling Week (11th–17th October).

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (Lord Young of Graffham)

The Government are part-funding the National Council for Voluntary Organisations' Waste Watch project which will be launched on 13th October and is designed to give advice and training to voluntary organisations for the promotion of recycling. The Government are also planning to release an education pack during Recycling Week which will be distributed to Secondary Schools throughout the country with the aim of increasing children's awareness of the potential value of "waste" as a resource. The pack will contain teachers notes and a set of slides and is designed for use in several subject areas.
