§ Mr. Keyasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the safety of the community in Salisbury and in nearby villages in view of experiments with gas and chemicals at the Chemical Defence Establishment, Porton Down.
§ Mr. SainsburyAll work carried out at the Chemical Defence Establishment, (CDE) Porton Down, is subject to exacting safety standards. The procedures followed conform fully with the appropriate national and international standards and the establishment is open to inspection by the Health and Safety Executive. I can assure my hon. Friend that the work of the CDE poses no hazard to the local community, which includes many members of staff and their families.
