HC Deb 21 July 1987 vol 120 c145W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what assesment he has made of the risks to the local populace of the transport of nuclear materials to and from Swynerton; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ian Stewart

For security reasons it has been the practice of successive Governments not to comment on the transport of defence nuclear materials. All aspects of safety remain under review, but the regulations applied by my Department are at least as stringent as those governing the movement of civil radioactive material, which were set out by my hon. Friend the then Under-Secretary of State for Transport on 25 July 1983, at column289.
