§ Mr. NichollsAs a Government we are fully committed to the promotion of equal opportunities in employment. Our policy, reinforced by equal opportunities legislation and the codes of practice produced by the Commission for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commission, is to persuade public and private sector employers that recruitment, training and promotion practices should be based solely on merit and potential.
