HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 cc10-1W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will set out in tabular form in the Official Report the percentage of pension lost, in each case, by the widows of those former Members who died between 1 March 1984 and 30 April 1987, taking into account the level of salary recommended by the TSRB in its report No. 20 and the salary actually in payment at the relevant date.

Mr. Wakeham

There are eight such cases. The proportion by which the pensions of the widows concerned would have been greater if the TSRB recommendation relating to Members' salaries had been implemented in full from 13 June 1983 depends mainly on the salary in payment at the time of death. Increases in that salary between 1983 and 1987 mean that, broadly speaking, the percentage gain forgone was least in the most recent cases. The following table sets out the percentage gain forgone in descending order of size.

Case Year of death Percentage
1 1984 19.62
2 1984 16.98
3 1985 13.7
4 1986 11.47
5 1986 7.45
6 1986 7.42
7 1987 5.87
8 1987 5.8
