HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c105W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he proposes to implement the recommendations made by the Environment Committee in May 1987 that there should be national timetabled water quality objectives in order to bring about a steady rate of improvement in polluted rivers and estuaries.

Mr. Moynihan

[pursuant to his reply, 17 July 1987]: Forthcoming legislation to establish a national rivers authority will include provision for a comprehensive statutory system of quality objectives in line with the Government's consultation proposals of April 1986. This will take full account of the detailed recommendations of the Environment Committee in its recent report, to which the Government hope to reply shortly after the summer recess.
