HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c106W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total available floor space of the rehabilitated and new building works in Richmond Terrace in Whitehall between Richmond Terrace and Derby Gate; when it will be ready for occupation; who will occupy it; and what is the estimated total cost.

Mr. Chope

The total available floor space in the Richmond Yard development is 158,000 sq ft and it will be completed later this year. As I announced on 17 March, the majority of the space will be used as the new headquarters accommodation of the Secretary of State for Social Services. The remainder of the accommodation will be occupied by Cabinet Office, Welsh Office and inland Revenue. The current estimate of cost of construction and the fitting out is £36 million.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what archaeological work was carried out during the building works in Richmond Terrace and in Whitehall between Richmond Terrace and Derby Gate; and what artefacts were found.

Mr. Chope

The detailed information is not readily available and I shall write to the hon. Member.
