§ Mr. Raisonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of local government spending in England is at present provided by the domestic rate; and what proportion he anticipates will be provided by the proposed community charge.
§ Mr. HowardNet domestic rate income accounts for about a quarter of local authority total expenditure in England. The Green Paper "Paying for Local Government", Cmnd. 9714, assumed that the community charge would raise a similar proportion. The precise proportion will be a matter to be determined nearer the time.
