HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c59W
Mr. Vaz

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many sub-police stations have been opened in Leicestershire over the last 10 years; how many have closed; and whether he will consider allocating sufficient additional funds to the Leicestershire constabulary to enable it to open the Uppingham road police station for 24 hours a day.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Operational decisions, which include the location of stations and sub-stations, and their opening hours, are matters for the chief constable. I understand from him that three sub-police stations were closed and replaced, and a further one opened, during this period. I also understand that the opening hours—8 am to 12 midnight—of Uppingham road police station are based on his assessment of the public need.
