asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with the current eyesight requirement for driving a motor vehicle; and if he will make a statement.

Yes. Evidence derived from ophthalmic research and accident studies suggests convincingly that the present requirement—that drivers must be able to read a number plate from a distance of 75 ft. for characters 3½ in. high, or 67 ft. for characters 3⅛ in. high—constitutes a satisfactory standard of eyesight for safe driving.
