HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c62W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in order to ensure full protection for allergic people, he will introduce legislation to ensure that food labelling requires all ingredients to be shown, including flavouring being less than 25 per cent. of the finished product: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The Food Labelling Regulations 1984 already require that prepacked foods should carry a full list of ingredients, including additives, which perform a technological function in the final food. At present, flavourings have to be shown only by their category name. Non-prepacked foods are required to declare on a label or notice the main categories of additives present.
