Mr. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set out the total social security budget of his Department in Wales, Scotland, England and each of the English regions for each year since 1979, both at outturn and 1987 prices.
§ Mr. ScottTotal identifiable public expenditure on the social security programme in England, Scotland and Wales is as set out for the years 1980–81 to 1985–86.668W Comparable figures for 1986–87 are not yet available. Figures consistent with those given in the table are not available for 1979–80. Regional analyses of expenditure in England are available only for certain benefits; detailed figures for the years to 1984–85 have been published in successive editions of "Regional Trends" from 1982 to 1987, copies of which are in the Library.
