§ Mr. Salmondasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, pursuant to the answer of 13 July, when he expects to be in a position to announce his decision on the possible reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission of the proposed purchase by the National Australia bank of the Clydesdale bank.
§ Mr. MaudeMy right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry will be in a position to make a decision on the possible reference of this proposal when he has received the advice of the Director General of Fair Trading. The Director General will submit his advice as soon as is reasonably practicable.
