HC Deb 15 July 1987 vol 119 cc531-2W
59. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many extra footpaths have been designated as public rights of way since the coming into operation of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1982; how many have been closed; and what has been the net effect on the mileage of public rights of way in England.

Mr. Moynihan

This information is not held centrally.

The Ramblers' Association is notified of some, but not all proposals affecting footpaths. Information on the effect of those proposals on the mileage of rights of way in England and Wales is set out in the first report on the monitoring of the rights of way legislation in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, published by the Countryside Commission in 1985. There is a copy of this in the Library of the House.
