§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the latest figure for the change in the number of kidney transplants over a convenient 12-month period.
§ Mrs. Currie[pursuant to her reply, 30 June 1987, c. 79] Figures for the change over the most recent 12-month period may be misleading because of significant variation within the period. The number of cadaveric kidney transplants reported to the United Kingdom transplant service for a series of six-monthly periods is as follows:
Number of transplants 1 June 1985–30 November 1985 672 1 December 1985–31 May 1986 726 I June 1986–30 November 1986 766 1 December 1986–31 May 1987 646 These figures refer to National Health Service operations within the United Kingdom. We are currently awaiting the advice of a working party established to examine ways of increasing the availability of organs for transplant. For further details I refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Newbury (Mr. McNair-Wilson) on 9 July 1987.
