HL Deb 13 July 1987 vol 488 c918WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majsty's Government:

Whether they have made any representations to the Turkish Government about the case of Devrimici Yol, how long the case has been before the military court in Ankara and what is the present position.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

We have not made, and do not consider it would be appropriate to make, representations to the Turkish Government about the case of Devrimici Yol, which was responsible for a large number of killings and robberies throughout Turkey in the late 1970s. Between 1981 and 1983 a number of Devrimici Yol trials began at martial law courts. With the exception of a trial involving 574 defendants in Ankara which began on 19th October 1982, these trials have now ended, althought appeal proceedings are continuing.
