§ Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider introducing help towards travelling costs for school pupils taking part in work experience whose parents are in receipt of supplementary benefit.
§ Mr. PortilloIt is not the purpose of the supplementary benefits scheme to help with educational expenses, including those arising from participation in a work experience scheme. I understand the matter of such expenses is covered in Department of Education and Science circular 7/74 and Welsh Office Circular 135/74 which fall within the responsibilities of my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Education and Science and for Wales.
