§ Mr. Ashdownasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which of the following United Nations human rights international instruments have been signed and ratified by the People's Republic of China: (a) the international covenant on economic, social and cultural rights, (b) the international covenant on civil and political rights, (c) the convention relating to the status of refugees, (d) the convention relating to the status of stateless persons and (e) the convention on the political rights of women; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EggarThe People's Republic of China has not signed and ratified or acceded to(a), (b), (d) or (e). It acceded to both the convention and the protocol relating to the status of refugees on 24 September 1982 (c).
