achievements of the United Nations decade for women. Implementation of the strategies is being monitored by the UN Secretariat and the commission on the status of women.
Women are both agents and beneficiaries of our aid programme and their needs are taken into account in drawing up and reviewing expenditure programmes. Aid wing officials hold regular discussions with members of the women's organisations interest group of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and other women in development experts.
Guidance on equal opportunities is a regular part of the Department's internal training. Aid wing staff also receive training in the role of women in development.
