§ Ms. Ruddockasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the sale of the REFEL plant at Springfields by British Nuclear Fuels plc to Turner and Newall Ltd. for £1.25 million; and whether British Nuclear Fuels plc has any further plans to sell off any of its other operations to private companies.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe REFEL plant at Springfields makes silicon carbide products, and is not central to BNFL's nuclear business. I am informed by the company that it decided to sell the plant in order to concentrate more fully on commercial activities vital to continued success. There will be no redundancies as a result of the sale. BNFL has no further plans to sell off any of its other operations to private companies.
