§ Mr. Fraserasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will withdraw the draft regulations under the Social Security Act which provide that the cost of alarm systems for the elderly or infirm will no longer be eligible for housing benefit.
§ Mr. PortilloThe draft regulations for the reformed housing benefits scheme to be introduced in April 1988 provide, in line with current policy, that the cost of alarm systems installed in accommodation specifically intended for elderly, sick or disabled people will be eligible for housing benefit.
