19. Mr. Salmond asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his estimate of the total cost to the fishing fleet in (a) Scotland and (b) England and Wales of the Government's decision to extend to fishing vessels liability for light dues.
§ Mr. GummerThe estimated annual yield of £1 million for light dues would be split fairly evenly between various sectors of the fishing fleet.
A fishing boat will now save more than 50 per cent. on the cost of a United Kingdom navigation transmitter and this therefore prepresents a significant reduction in its costs.
