§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what help he proposes to give the Natural Environment Research Council to enable it to maintain research at the grant-aided Freshwater Biological Association Laboratories.
Mr. JacksonMy right hon. Friend allocates funds each year to the Natural Environment Research Council and other research councils, after the Government have determined the overall funding available. In reaching this decision he takes account of advice from the Advisory Board for the Research Councils. Within the sum provided, the council is expected to determine its own priorities for the support of relevant research within its own establishments and grant-aided institutions.
