In the answer given by my hon. Friend the former Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs and Construction to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West (Mr. Banks) on 6 April 1987, at column 26, he explained that an estimated 85 docklands firms have been relocated outside the area; 20 of these were from Newham, 32 from Southwark and 33 from Tower Hamlets. A total of 3,355 jobs have been notified by the MSC as lost between 1981 and 31 March 1987 as a result of firm closures or other redundancies. Information by borough is not available.
