HL Deb 01 July 1987 vol 488 c340WA
Baroness Nicol

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the total estimated cost of constructing:

  1. (i) the improvements to the A.20; and
  2. (ii) the proposed associated environmental works included in the Channel Tunnel Bill; and whether they will list and cost the principal items to be included in the environmental works.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

The current estimated cost of the A.20 improvement between Folkestone and Dover is £55m. This includes some £4m for A.20 environmental works, included in the Channel Tunnel Bill, consisting of a low level viaduct across Holywell Coombe in place of an embankment; a short tunnel instead of a long viaduct at Round Hill; and landscaping measures in the Alkham Valley and elsewhere.
