asked the Attorney-General on what date he asked the Metropolitan police to carry out an investigation into matters arising from information given to Mr. Duncan Campbell about project Zircon; and what precise lines of inquiry he suggested to the police.

The Attorney-General

On Friday 23 January 1987 the Director of Public Prosecutions, at the request of the Attorney-General, asked the Metropolitan police to investigate possible breaches of the Official Secrets Act. 1911 arising out of the publication in theNew Statesman magazine of a report entitled "The Parliamentary bypass operation". It is the policy of both the Attorney-General and the Director of Public Prosecutions not to give details of advice provided to police about the conduct of current investigations.
