HL Deb 29 January 1987 vol 483 c1539WA
Lord Chelwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consideration they have now given to the two specific proposals, made in the introduction to the Sixth Annual Report of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, for making the "in lieu" scheme even more effective at minimal cost to the public purse; and whether they will state their views separately on each proposal.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

The proposals concern a possible system of tax credits for items accepted in lieu and the interest charges on tax debts while offers are under consideration. Views on these issues were expressed in the Government's response (Cmnd. 8538) to the Third Report of the Select Committee on Education, Science and the Arts, Session 1980–81. However, the operation of the acceptance in lieu arrangements continues to be kept under review.
