Midlands Link Relief Route

Mr. John Mark Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the prospects for the completion of the M40, the M42 and the M6 midlands link relief route.

Given favourable weather the southern turn between the M42 and M5 will open to traffic within the next couple of months.

Programmed completion dates for the other new links in the motorway network are M40— 1990, M42-M5 northern turn— 1990, northern relief route— 1993. Achievement of these dates is dependent upon statutory procedures.
