HC Deb 26 January 1987 vol 109 c56W
29. Mr. Dykes

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the capacity of the United Kingdom energy supplies sectors to cope with extra demand for heating and lighting during cold weather.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The supply industries have the capacity to cope with additional demand for heating and lighting during periods of severe weather.

This was demonstrated recently when, apart from a few local difficulties in distribution, they were able to meet record levels of demand for gas and electricity during some of the coldest temperatures experienced this century.
