§ Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has on the effectiveness of the voluntary procedure for recalling defective remould tyres, in the light of the case of Messrs. Arvoland of Cambridge, now in receivership; if he has any proposals for the introduction of a mandatory system for warning the user of the potential dangers of such tyres; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyI am satisfied with the general operation of the voluntary code of practice for tyre recalls, and with its application in the case of Arvoland Ltd. until this firm went into receivership. These arrangements provide for departmental publicity when necessary. I see no need for a mandatory system of recall.
