§ Mr. Peter BottomleyMy right hon. Friend already has powers to lay down safety requirements for vehicle components before they are put on the market. Under the Motor Vehicle Tyres(Safety) Regulations, 1984, retreaded tyres must be manufactured so as to meet British Standard BS Au 144b.
