§ Mr. Merchantasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give (a) the number of patients on the high priority waiting list for kidney transplants in May 1986 and (b) the number of patients on that list who have since been found matching kidneys for transplant.
§ Mrs. Currie[pursuant to her reply, 16 January 1987]: In May 1986 there were eight patients on the United Kingdom Transplant Service's "clinically urgent" list for kidney transplant (those patients whose consultants considered them unlikely to survive more than about four weeks without a transplant). Six have since had transplants, one was removed from the list as unsuitable for transplant and one died while waiting for a suitably matched kidney.
