§ 38. Mr. McQuarrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he next expects to have a meeting with the Scottish fishermen's organisations to discuss the future of their industry.
§ Mr. John MacKayI have frequent meetings with representatives of the Scottish fishing industry but have at present no firm plans for our next meeting.
§ Mr. McQuarrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the representatives of the Scottish fishing fleet regarding the required approval for the Russian Klondykers to operate in Falmouth bay; what action he has taken to support the Scottish fishermen; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John MacKayA number of representations have been received from the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen's Association and the Scottish Fishermen's Federation. The granting of licences for klondyking operations in English ports is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. My officials have been in regular contact with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in pursuit of the request from the Scottish fishing fleet for klondyking facilities and I hope that a decision on the matter will be taken very soon.
