§ 25. Mr. Evennettasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the public response to the Save a Life Campaign in relation to immediate care.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe Save a Life Campaign was initiated by the Royal Society of Medicine and is intended to promulgate simple life-saving techniques among the general public.
168WWe have been very pleased with the public response to this campaign. I understand that the average audience for the BBC television programmes was 7 million: by Christmas, nearly 70,000 inquiries had been received by the campaign office, and over 17,000 people were known to have attended classes. I have myself attended a Save a Life class in London and I was very impressed by the clarity of instruction and the enthusiasm shown. The BBC will also broadcast a follow-up programme to the campaign and will be repeating the series later in the year.
I would like to congratulate all concerned, but especially the volunteer staff, the BBC, and the British Heart Foundation, who made a substantial contribution.
