§ Mr. Geraint Howellsasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a list of area health boards in rank order according to the number of patients awaiting treatment in Wales; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsThe following tables show the health authorities in Wales ranked according to the numbers of in-patients and according to the numbers of out-patients on hospital waiting lists at 30 June 1986:
Number of in-patients Number Powys 70 Gwynedd 2,013 East Dyfed 2,101 Pembrokeshire 2,794 Clwyd 4,872 West Glamorgan 4,955 South Glamorgan 7,764 Gwent 7,998 Mid Glamorgan 9,090
Number of out-patients Number Powys 654 Pembrokeshire 2,156 Gwynedd 4,145 East Dyfed 5,648 Clwyd 8,822 Gwent 11,359 South Glamorgan 16,239 West Glamorgan 16,296 Mid Glamorgan 18,393 I am concerned at the length of time some people have to wait for hospital treatment in Wales and my officials are working closely with district health authorities to help them find ways of solving the problem. One million pounds has been distributed for 1986–87 and a further £1 million will be made available in 1987–88 to make an immediate impact on the worst bottlenecks.
