HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 cc13-4W
16. Mr. Favell

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans his Department has for major road projects in the Greater Manchester area; and what are the implications for employment.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Contracts worth £70 million have already been let for widening M63 and for construction of the Portwood to Denton section of the Manchester outer ring road. There are plans for over £200 million further investment in major road projects.

One of the major objectives of all national trunk road schemes is to help economic recovery by reducing transport costs. Completion of the ring road will assist the economic development of Greater Manchester by improving communications within the area.
