HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 cc71-2W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for reports from each chief constable detailing the number of motorists stopped and positively breathalysed for drunken driving in each force area between Christmas and new year's day; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The official Home Office statistics on breath tests in England and Wales in 1986, including the Christmas period, will not be available until the middle of this year, but the Association of Chief Police Officers has collated provisional figures for the number of roadside screening tests which were positive in 42 police force areas, and this information is given in the table. Information is not yet available on the total number of tests carried out, but this will be included in the Home Office statistics.
