Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information his Department holds on the seasonal mortality of babies in the first year of life.

The table shows the number of deaths at age under one year by sex and month of occurrence for England and Wales from 1981 to 1985. Statistics of infant mortality by quarter year of registration are published routinely in tables 9 and 21 of "Population Trends", copies of which may be found in the Library.
