asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of the total budget of his Department is used for cervical cancer testing.

Expenditure on cervical cancer screening is not separately identified in health authority accounts. It is estimated that the current costs to the National Health Service in England is in the range of £20–£30 milllion per year. This represents between 0.13 and 0.19 per cent. of the total annual expenditure on the NHS in England, and between 0.04 and 0.06 per cent. of the total budgets for which the Department is responsible in England.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the number of women of those screened for cervical cancer in the last four months in the North East Thames regional health authority, who were found to have cervical dysplasia;

(2) what is the number of women, of those screened for cervical cancer in the last four months in the North East Thames regional health authority, who were found to have cervical carcinoma in situ;

(3) what is the number of women, of those screened for cervical cancer in the last four months in Islington district health authority, who were found to have cervical dysplasia;

(4) what is the number of women, of those screened for cervical cancer in the last four months in Islington district health authority, who were found to have cervical carcinoma in situ;

(5) what is the number of women screened for cervical cancer in Islington district health authority in the last four months;

(6) what is the number of women screened for cervical cancer in the North East Thames regional health authority in the last four months.
