§ Mr. Hayesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to investigate high charges to casualty officers by private agencies; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonI assume that my hon. Friend has in mind the charges made by agencies to health authorities for the supply of temporary medical staff. We have at present no plans to investigate such charges, but have advised authorities that in agreeing terms with agencies they should have regard to the rates of remuneration payable to directly employed staff. Several authorities are taking 867W steps to improve arrangements for the provision of temporary medical staff, and we shall keep the position under review in consultation with them.
