§ 67. Mr. Tom Clarkeasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will raise with his European Economic Community counterparts the supply by EEC countries of arms to UNITA.
§ Mrs. ChalkerSince we are not aware that any EC country is supplying arms to UNITA, we do not consider that it would be appropriate to raise the matter with our partners. Our view, that Western interests in Southern Africa would be best served by the peaceful negotiation of a settlement leading to a withdrawal of all foreign troops from the region and the full independence of Namibia, is well known.
