HC Deb 18 February 1987 vol 110 c725W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will request the chairman of the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights to expedite the commission's consideration of allegations made in 1984 of discrimination practised in Northern Ireland by the Gaelic Athletic Association through clubs benefiting from public funds and to issue an interim report thereon pending the next annual report; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tom King

The Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights is an independent body and it is for the commission to decide when to publish its views on any matter.

The commission's twelfth annual report (HC 151), published on 10 February 1987, gives a target date of September 1987 for the completion of the commission's review of the adequacy and effectiveness of legislation to prevent discrimination on grounds of religious or political belief. I understand that the commission intends to publish a separate report on the outcome of this review.
