HC Deb 17 February 1987 vol 110 c552W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he had with local people about the composition of the board of the urban development corporation for Trafford Park; why no representative of trade unions was placed on the board; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

I have discussed the membership of the Trafford Park development corporation with the local authorities concerned and with industrialists in the area. I consulted the local authorities, on behalf of my right hon. Friend, about the proposed appointment of members with special knowledge of the locality.

None of the board members are representatives of particular interests; they have been chosen because of their ability to do the job. Any further appointments to the board will be made on the same basis.
