§ Mr. Chris Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers, and how many members of the public were killed, and how many were injured, in accidents involving metropolitan police 557W vehicles in the years 1984, 1985, and 1986; and how many of these deaths and injuries in each year resulted from accidents for which police drivers were assessed by the police to have been wholly or partly responsible.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis has provided the following information in relation to police vehicle accidents involving deaths:

Detailed information on the numbers injured in police vehicle accidents was not collected prior to October 1985, but there were 99 police vehicle accidents involving injury in 1984 and 76 such accidents between 1 January and 30 September 1985 (inclusive). The figures since then are given in the table.
