§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what response he has made to the proposals put to him by the National Play Advisory Committee entitled Playboard and the future of central Government funding, for a national play service; and whether he intends any further response during the current discussions between the Sports Council and Playboard.
§ Mr. TraceyI have met representatives of the National Play Advisory Committee to discuss their concerns about and their proposals for the future development of children's play. As I have explained to them, the Government remain convinced that the proposals for Playboard's role and functions to be merged with those of the Sports Council represent the most cost-effective use of public funds for the greater benefit of children's play.
