Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if he will publish in the Official Report the number of persons who were initially detained under other acts and were subsequently charged under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts in 1986;

(2) how many persons detained under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts were charged with (a) offences under the Acts and (b) offences under other Acts (excluding common law offences) in 1986.

In 1986, five people detained in Northern Ireland under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984 were charged with offences under that Act; 330 were charged with offences under other Acts. Three people were charged with an offence under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984 having first been detained in Northern Ireland under another Act.
