asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the figures for the import into the United Kingdom of (a) soya beans and (b) soya meal for the months of December 1986 and January 1987.

In December 1986, 63,656 metric tonnes of soya beans (value £9 million) and 106,670 metric tonnes of soya meal (value £36,000) were imported into the United Kingdom.

Figures for January 1987 are not yet available.
