§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British subjects are currently known to be in Lebanon; and what advice he is giving to them about staying there.
§ Mr. EggarThere are about 1,700 British nationals currently in Lebanon, of whom the vast majority are dual nationals. Consular advice to British nationals resident in all areas of Lebanon is kept constantly under review. At present, our advice is that they should observe a high level of caution and consider whether they have compelling reasons to remain in the country. Those in west Beirut have been repeatedly urged to leave.
