§ Mr. Mallonasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) how many teachers have recorded criminal convictions apart from motoring offences;
(2) how many teachers are currently approved by the Department of Education;
(3) how many teachers, as a result of recorded criminal convictions, have had their recognition either suspended or withdrawn by his Department.
§ Dr. MawhinneyInformation on the total number of recognised teachers is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. Seven have had their recognition withdrawn and the continued recognition of a further three is currently being considered. Sixteen with convictions for offences considered not so serious as to warrant withdrawal of recognition currently hold teaching posts in grant-aided schools.
