HL Deb 12 February 1987 vol 484 c852WA
Lord Mulley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps are being taken to make known, in the areas concerned, the time limit and procedures applicable to persons wishing to petition against the provisions of the Channel Tunnel Bill; and why the advertisements which preceded the consideration of the Bill in the House of Commons were not repeated prior to its consideration in this House.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

I am confident that, as a result of the earlier advertisements, the great majority of those who petitioned against the Channel Tunnel Bill in the other place are already aware through their agents, interest groups or local newspapers of the procedures and the closing date for petitions against the Bill. My right honourable friend has, however, in addition placed advertisements in the national press reminding people of the closing date.
